Saint Vincent became the patron of Lisbon in 1173, when his relics were brought here from the Algarve and placed in a temple outside of the city walls . The history of the church dates back to 1582 , when the D. Afonso Henriques ordered the construction of a small church of São Vicente. In 1627 , it was rebuilt by the architect Filippo Terzi . The church has a beautiful Renaissance façade.
