There is a promenade along the river and the Vasco da Gama shopping mall that is one of the largestin the country. Most visitors will arrive at the Parque das Nacoes via the metro station of Estaçao do Oriente. The Oceanarium in Parque das Nações was designed by American architect Peter Chermayeff and is the largest in Europe.

The attractions in area include an interactive science museum - the Knowledge Pavilion (Pavilhão do Conhecimento), bicycle rental and open-air concerts in Sony Square (Praça Sony).

Other attractions include a modern casino, water gardens, a viewing tower, a marina, and a number of bars and restaurants with outdoor seating overlooking one of the world’s longest bridge Vasco da Gama Bridge.

The park was built with the general theme of "The oceans, a heritage for the future" and some 142 countries and international organizations participated. Today it offers a unique and exciting experience. It is an excellent area for walking and for enjoying quiet moments of true culture, leisure and entertainment.

The gardens are another great attraction in Expo. Many Lisboetas crowd here at weekends, not just to shop or to see a film but to relax. As the gardens extend north from the Oceanário through a larger park to the new Ponte Vasco da Gama and beyond, it is not surprising that this is the only place in town where you can relax without the noise of passing cars or train. The Garcia de Orta Garden and the Water Garden shouldn’t be missed out in this part of the city.
