Planning a trip to Lisbon
Visiting Lisbon?

Going to Lisbon and wondering when and for how long? Want to know how to make the most of your stay in Lisbon and get to know the true character of the city? Not sure what to visit? A long weekend, a week or even longer? How much time do you really need to know Lisbon? Here, you will find this and many more answers to all your questions regarding your trip to Lisbon.
How long?

To visit Lisbon and do the main sightseeing in the city, you need 2-3 days. However, if you have the opportunity to go for the whole week you certainly won’t be bored. To visit Lisbon in detail and discover the true character of the city you can’t be in a hurry. Lisbon has not only a huge number of historical places and monuments, but also its citizens have completely different approach to life, never hurry and spend most of their in typical portuguese’s bars and cafes . Besides, if you stay here for longer you may choose to visit one of the Lisbon surroundings cities: Sintra , Cabo da Roca or Cascais. Lisbon is also a great base for short road trips to nearby castles (Obidos, Tomar), palaces (Quinta da Regaleira, Palacio da Pena, Mafra) , monasteries (Batalha, Alcobaša) and Fatima .

When is the best time to come to Lisbon?

A major dilemma is the time of the year when you want to come to Lisbon. A detailed description of the climate in Lisbon , with average temperatures can be found on any weather forecast website. However, I believe, that the best month to come is June . It is a month of many events happening in the city. Also in June, Lisbon celebrates the day of Saint Anthony- the saint patron of Lisbon ( the night of 12 to 13 June ) with the biggest fest of the year happening all around the city centre. Moreover, June in Lisbon is not as hot as July and August, when during the day it is hard to visit the city in the burning sun . Also, I do not recommend planning a trip in the winter (December , January and February) . The temperatures are not low, but it rains very often. Since the beginning of spring (March , April, May ) and late autumn (September , October and mid-November ), you can count on warm and sunny days and quick rain showers.
