It is one of the most beautiful beaches around Lisbon, but can be windy and the waves are powerful, which doesn’t make it the best beach for swimming.

It is one of the best spots in Portugal for surfing and wind surfing. Portugal frequently holds national and international competitions at this location. July and August are the best months for these sports, but the wind begins to blow in May and goes on until October.

Experienced surfers and windsurfers take advantage of the maritime conditions here but the standard tourist would do well to heed the red flags denoting dangerous waters.
