Baleal is beautifully situated small town: on a peninsula located north of Peniche with a beach surrounded by rocks . The name of the village comes from local whalers as Baleal means a "whale" in Portuguese language. Baleal is still small and quiet village, however it has great tourism potential, especially for water sports . Due to the unique location the conditions for sports as surfing and body boarding are just perfect.

Here, you will find numerous water sports school. It is on the beach of Baleal that the first school of surfing was established in 1993. A Escola de Surf Baleal was a pioneer in the water sport´s business in whole region.
